research

From January 2004 until today I collaborate with the Department of Medicine, in the Physiology Lab, Neurophysiology Unit led by Prof. G. Kostopoulos, in research in the area of brain signal analysis (EEG) and implementation of source detection algorithms using constrained blind source separation and advanced signal and image processing techniques for studying the function and activity of the human brain during sleep.

From January 2007 until the end of the same year, I collaborated with the research team of Applied Neurosciences of the Laboratory of Medical Informatics of the Medical School of Aristotele University of Thessaloniki on the area related to the application of digital signal processing methods and analysis using independent component analysis (ICA) of GSR (Galvanic skin response) and EEG signals for the study of human brain activity in visual stimuli.

From 2012 until today I am a member of the laboratory of Information Systems and Forecasts in Tourism, of the Department of Tourism Management, led by Prof. Alk. Panagopoulos, dealing with the study and analysis of time series of tourist data in order to make decisions and implement stochastic and computational models for forecasting tourist data using advanced techniques of the field of digital signal processing.

From 2013 until today I am a member of the Wired Communication laboratory (WCL), Pattern Recognition Group of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Patras, led by Assoc. Professor E. Dermatas dealing with the detection and recognition of abnormalities in mammography X-ray images, the implementation of Brain Computer Interface systems (BCI) and the development of digital audio processing algorithms.

At the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Peloponnese, I have founded and supervised the research group of SIGNAL, IMAGE PROCESSING & PATTERN RECOGNITION (SIPPRE) Research Group, active in the field of signal and image processing, biomedical signal and image analysis and brain computer interfaces (BCI). The group has established collaborations with faculty members and researchers from Institutions and Research Centers in Greece and abroad, two PhD candidates as well as postgraduate and undergraduate students of the Department.

My research include the areas of:

  • Digital audio processing and analysis.
  • Digital image processing and analysis.
  • Blind source and speech separation.
  • Analysis and processing of medical signals.
  • Development of medical diagnostic systems (Computer Aided Diagnosis Systems).
  • Analysis of electroencephalograms, magnetic resonance imaging (EEG, MEG).
  • Pattern recognition (Neural Networks, Hidden Markov Models (HMM), Support Vector Machines).
  • Machine Learning Techniques
  • Deep Learning, Artificial Neural Networks.
  • Digital processing and music information retrieval
  • Emotion recognition
  • Prediction and processing of tourist time series
